As we move through June, the international firms continue to advertise new associate-level opportunities across the London market on their career's pages. Spanning corporate, banking, restructuring, and projects, the first half of June saw new roles being advertised across a range of PQE levels.

Inhouse


The in-house legal hiring market was slightly less active in the first half of June compared to the first half of May, with just under 130 newly advertised roles. While Commerce & Industry continues to dominate (59%), Financial Services also remains strong at 30%, slightly down from May and  Government and Not-for-Profit hiring slightly up at around 10% of total roles.

Financial Services Roles


Asset Management & Private Equity

Firms including BlackRock, Royal London, M&G, Greyhound Capital,  and Alliance Global Investors were actively hiring legal counsel with expertise in areas such as derivatives, fund structuring, regulatory compliance, and deal execution. Most roles targeted the 5–10+ PQE range, often requiring strong cross-border transactional experience.


Banking

Banks such as JP Morgan, Nomura, Barclays, NatWest Group, ClearBank, Cynergy Bank, and RBC added roles spanning structured finance, derivatives, and regulatory advisory. Hiring ranged from junior to senior level roles.


Fintech / Payments / Crypto

In fintech and payments, Wise, Mastercard, Coinbase, Lendable, Moneybox, Worldpay, PayPal, and Deriv all posted new roles. These companies sought mid to senior-level lawyers with experience in contentious matters, regulatory licensing, product rollout, and payments law.


Insurance

A flurry of hiring occurred across insurance companies including QBE, AmTrust, Swiss Re, Just Group, Allianz Commercial, Chaucer Group, and Marsh. Positions included claims counsel, sanctions advisory, regulatory, underwriting, and reinsurance-focused roles, often requiring 5–10+ PQE and in-house sector experience.


Commerce & Industry


Energy & Infrastructure

A number of senior strategic roles were posted by firms such as Petroineos, EDF, Equans, Balfour Beatty, Prax and SmartestEnergy. Most required senior counsel or leadership experience (6–10+ PQE), particularly in project contracts, procurement, construction, and governance.


Technology

Tech hiring remains very strong, with roles at Google, Amazon Web Services, Salesforce, Airbnb, Canva, Dataiku, Shufti, Ultralytics, Sphera, Relay Technologies, Prolific, Infosys, Entrust, HubSpot, Avanti, Seismic, and Cube. Most opportunities were in commercial contracts, SaaS, privacy, and AI/data governance, with a wide range from junior to GC-level roles.


Retail & Consumer Goods

Brands including Zapp, Harrods, Budweiser Brewing Group, JTI, Sainsbury’s, Bacardi, POP Mart, and Diageo recruited for roles spanning commercial, regulatory, IP, and employment law. The PQE range varied widely from 2 years to head of legal positions, often with hybrid working.


Healthcare & Lifesciences

Employers such as Regeneron, The Francis Crick Institute, HeliosX, ProPharma, Cencora (PharmaLex), Flo Health, and Cera sought lawyers across privacy, R&D contracts, employment, and health sector compliance. Roles were often international in scope, with many targeting mid to senior lawyers with sector-specific legal skills.


Media, Entertainment & Digital Content

Hiring continued in this space, with new roles at DAZN, Sky, BBC, Side, RELX (LexisNexis), Thomson Reuters, Walt Disney, and Banijay UK. The focus ranged from IP and data privacy to advertising, trade controls, and production-related commercial work, covering 4–15+ PQE.


Government, Regulatory & Not-for-Profit


Public and third-sector hiring included roles at UCL, Brunel University, Macmillan, The Guinness Partnership, The Animal Law Foundation, Fair4All Finance, The General Dental Council, The Insolvency Service, and the Royal Borough of Greenwich. Most roles focused on regulatory, procurement, litigation, and employment law, with PQE levels from junior to senior legal counsel.
