London Legal Jobs Overview: 1st February 2025

Updated: May 2

Summary

January got off to a busy start, there were more new legal jobs advertised in January on both the private practice and inhouse sides than had been advertised in any of the preceding six months.

We identified over 130 new legal roles advertised by law firms on their career sites. Of note were the number of new roles in Corporate and Banking, areas that had been relatively quiet during 2024.  The appearance of 40 new roles across these two practice areas, could be an early signal that firms will be busier in these areas in 2025. If so, 2025 should provide more opportunities and choice for Corporate and Banking lawyers.

On the inhouse side, we identified were just shy of 300 new legal roles, posted in January on LinkedIn.  This is the highest number of roles in a month since we first started following the market.

Below is more in-depth analysis around practice areas and types of firm hiring on the priate practice and Inhouse side. To see which firms are advertising legal roles, visit the job search page on The Rackle.
