Private Practice – Overview of roles being advertised at the start of November

The recruitment market in London has definitely picked up in the second half of 2024. In October we identified 119 new roles being advertised by US firms, UK International/Global or City/Boutique law firms, this is similar to the number of new roles in September and August and is 50% above the monthly average of 78 in H1.

Below is an overview by practice area of the number of London roles that were being advertised by firms at the beginning of November. Transactional Roles

At the beginning of November, we identified the following number of London based roles being advertised by law firms on their careers’ pages in the below practice areas:

• Banking & Finance:  46 roles (two being PSL roles) (12 with US firms, 31 with UK international/global firms and three with City/regional firms).  22 of the roles were new, having been added to the firms’ careers’ site since the beginning of October.

  
  

• Corporate:  31 roles  (three being PSL roles) (7 with US firms, 18 with top tier international firms and 6 with national/regional firms). 13 of the roles were new, having been added to the firms’ careers’ site since the beginning of October   

  
  

• Restructuring/Insolvency:  Nine roles (two with US firms, three with international firms, four with City/Regional firms). Four of the roles were new, having been added to the firms’ careers’ site since the beginning of October.

Advisory Practice areas:

At the beginning of November, we identified the following number of London based roles being advertised by law firms on their careers’ pages in the below practice areas:

• Antitrust/EU/Competition: 13 roles (three of which are competition litigation roles)(eight with US firms, five with international firms). Two of the roles were new, having been added to the firms’ careers’ site since the beginning of October.

  
  

• Employment - 22 roles (three with US firms, six with top tier international firms, four with national/regional firms and 10 with City boutiques). Six of the roles were new, having been added to the firms’ careers’ site since the beginning of October.

  
  

• FS/Regulatory - Five roles (One with a US firm and four with international firms). One of the roles was new, having been added to the firms’ careers’ site since the beginning of October.

  
  

• Incentives - Three roles (two with international firms, and one with a regional firm).  None of the roles were new to firms careers’ site since the beginning of October.

  
  

• Funds - Nine roles (two with US firms, six with international firms and one with a City/Regional firm), Four of the roles were new, having been added to the firms’ careers’ site since the beginning of October.

  
  

• Pensions - 9 roles (including one Pensions lit role) (six with international firms and three with national/regional firm). Three of the roles were new, having been added to the firms’ careers’ site since the beginning of October.

  
  

• Tax - 20 roles (Including 4 tax litigation) (Four with US firms, 13 with international firms and three with regional/City firms). Six of the roles were new, having been added to the firms’ careers’ site since the beginning of October.

Litigation:

At the beginning of November, we identified the following number of London based roles being advertised by law firms on their careers’ pages in the below practice areas:

• Commercial Litigation - 21 roles (including 2 PSL roles) (three with US firms, five international firms, 13 with national/regional/city boutiques). Five of the roles were new, having been added to the firms’ careers’ site since the beginning of October.

  
  

• Real Estate Litigation - 10 roles (four with international firms and six with City Boutiques/Regional firms).  Two of the roles were new, having been added to the firms’ careers’ site since the beginning of October.

  
  

• Insurance Litigation (defendant) - 12 roles (Eight with international firms, four with regional firms). Seven of the roles were new, having been added to the firms’ careers’ site since the beginning of October.

  
  

• Personal Injury (including Clinical negligence) - Six roles (Including 2 defendant led roles) (Four with international firms, two with City/Regional firm).  None of the roles were new to firms’ careers’ site since the beginning of October.

  
  

• Specialist Litigation - 11 Roles (seven with international firms, four with city boutiques).  One of the roles was new, having been added to the firms’ careers’ site since the beginning of October.

Construction, Planning and Real Estate

At the beginning of October, we identified the following number of London based roles being advertised by law firms on their careers’ pages in the below practice areas:

• Construction - 11 roles (including one PSL role) (three with international firms, eight with national/regional/City boutiques).  Two of the roles were new, having been added to the firms’ careers’ site since the beginning of October.

  
  

• Construction Litigation - four roles (three with international firms, one with national/regional/city boutiques).  None of the roles were new.

  
  

• Planning - five roles (two with international firm, three with national/regional firms).  Three of the roles were new, having been added to the firms’ careers’ site since the beginning of October.

  
  

• Commercial Real Estate - 10 roles (two with international firms and eight with national/regional/City firms).  Three of the roles were new, having been added to the firms’ careers’ site since the beginning of October.
