Professional Support Lawyers Opportunities

If you’re a lawyer considering a move into a Professional Support Lawyer (PSL) role, the latest data on roles advertised directly on law firm careers pages makes for encouraging reading.
One of the more interesting aspects of the PSL market is how transparent it is compared to fee earning hiring. A number of US firms that rarely advertise associate or senior associate roles will still openly advertise PSL positions on their careers pages. Similarly whilst some firms only sporadically advertise roles on their career pages, often the roles that are sporadically advertised are PSL roles.
As a result, while there will always be some off-market opportunities, the majority of PSL roles are visible and advertised directly by firms, giving those that are interested in their options or opportunities one of the most transparent views of the market.
What opportunities were there in 2025
At the beginning of 2025 there were 19 PSL roles that were carried over from going live in 2024. During 2025 there were 79 new PSL roles advertised and together with 19 roles that were carried over from 2024, this means that there were just under 100 different opportunities that were advertised. The roles were spread across a full range of practice areas, but Banking, Corporate and Litigation had the most roles, of the specialist practice areas, Pensions PSLs were by far the most in demand.

What is happening now?
2026 has started strongly for the PSL market. There were 18 roles carried over from 2025, and in Q1 a further 25 new PSL roles were advertised, with 11 of these in March alone—the highest monthly total of new PSL roles advertised in London in the past two years.
With 18 roles also closing during Q1, the market has remained active and dynamic. As a result, at the beginning of April there were 25 live PSL roles, of which 18 had been advertised within the previous three months, highlighting the pace at which new opportunities are coming to market.
For those interested, below is a list of the firms that advertised new PSL roles in March, that are still live (two of the new roles in March have already been closed) along with links to each role on their careers pages.
